In June 2005, Dirk Ross reports that rocks (earth rocks) have been stolen from a 'meteorite' park near Altai, Xinjiang, China. Dirk writes, "The local police are now seriously investigating as a case for the death penalty. Rocks... stolen from this site are being sold as 'meteorites' throughout China. I visited the site earlier this month. The entrance fee is $2 and they tell you to take a sample if you wish. The site is on Chinese tourist maps and is promoted as being real. The park was comprised of hundreds of black Earth rocks (TKW 1000`s of tons). The particular rocks are intrusive volcanics that remain from highly weathered granites. Analysis is not complete at this time. It appears to be enstatite. If anyone is offered "meteorites" from China or if you have questions please contact me. Dirk Ross"
